This course prepares participants to be able to interact with canines and other animals while performing their law enforcement duties. In addition, individuals will learn to recognize and understand different canine behaviors and interact with them using de-escalation techniques and non-lethal resources to avoid and defend against an attack.

This course is offered under the Keeping Texas Prepared – LAW Extension course suite and meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Canine Encounters Course #4065.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Enrollment Requirements

Participants enrolling in this course must meet one of the following employment statuses. Please ensure the affiliation on your student account reflects one of the following:

  • Licensed or certified peace officer with a current commission employed by or attached to a law enforcement/investigative agency
  • Civilian employed by a law enforcement/investigative agency conducting investigative tasks or duties
